Today I want to talk about the last piece I’ve been putting off, which is our Astrological Moon Sign, the third part of our Zodiac.
Last week I talked about Sun Signs and Rising Signs and how they combine to give us a more accurate and clear representation of who we are, but it’s when combined with our Moon Sign that we get the best picture.
What is a Moon Sign?
The Moon Sign tells us what house the moon was in when we were born, and the moon changes signs every 2 – 3 days.
When two people are born on the same day, but at different times or in different places, they have the same Sun Sign, but a different Rising Sign. The different Rising Signs make them very different – likewise two Aries could be very different if one is born on March 28th and the other on April 5th since they would have different Moon Signs!
Similar to the Rising Sign it makes it a little more difficult to figure out your Moon Sign, so here’s a link to a calculator that will do the work for you!
Our Moon Sign tells us what kind of experience you need in order to feel emotionally satisfied, it is an indicator of your emotional nature.
This third part of our Zodiac describes unconscious & instinctive reactions, what is innate, either inherited from your mother or reflected in the feminine dimension of your life.
How the Parts of Our Signs Align
Your Sun Sign is a big part of your personality on the inside, and the Rising Sign is the part of ourselves that we project to other people – the Moon Sign helps influence how strongly your Sun Sign is expressed.
I am an Aries Sun Sign, with a Taurus Rising and a Taurus Moon. Subsequently, I have that fiery drive from the Cardinal Fire Sign of Aries, but also the grounded nature of the Fixed Earth Sign of Taurus.
You can read more about the Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable Signs, as well as the elemental correspondences here!
But what does that mean?
Since I am an Aries Sun Sign, I have a LOT of energy & drive, and I am VERY creative – but it’s the stability of the Taurus Rising/Moon Signs that let me get things done.
The combination of the three means I am INCREDIBLY stubborn, hard headed, motivate, passionate and dominant – but the steady Taurus influence mellows out the Aries aggressive nature.
Moon Signs are the biggest determining factor in how well two people will get along – they are the emotional side of us, and emotions are water which is controlled by the moon – so compatible Moon Signs are much more important than the other two!
A Few Final Pieces
As the Moon Sign is our Emotional Personality, it is the feelings, urges and soul-urges that not everyone sees.
While the Lunar Cycle changes (New Moon, Waxing Moon, Full Moon, Waning Moon) it can affect how much we share or keep to ourselves as well.
Since the moon is the closest celestial body to earth it has great governance over out moods and feelings – and because the moon comes at night this Emotional Personality is sometimes called our Shadow Side.
Often our Moon Sign does not present itself externally, or immediately as the Sun and Rising Signs do. But as you get to know someone and see how they respond to different life situations it becomes apparent.
